A BEACH clean, organised collaboratively by Corona and Parley for the Oceans was held at Widemouth Bay recently.

Parley for the Oceans is a global network where creators, thinkers and leaders from the creative industries, brands, governments and environmental groups come together to raise awareness for the beauty and fragility of the oceans and collaborate on projects that can end their destruction.

The organisation has formed alliances with major corporations including Adidas, Anheuser Busch InBev (Corona), American Express, the United Nations, the Maldives and collaborators spanning the worlds of science, art, fashion, design, entertainment, sports, and space and ocean exploration.

This summer, Parley are heading around the coastlines of the UK in partnership with Corona, cleaning up beaches and education people about the plastic problem.

The beach clean at Widemouth was part of a four-month tour of the UK, where volunteers will be cleaning approximately 70 beaches.

Zoe Kabouter Gascoyne, a Bude resident who works for Parley, said: “There was a great turnout for the Widemouth beach clean on Saturday! We had 20 volunteers, some travelling for nearly an hour to reach us. We collected 5kgs of rubbish off a beach which looked very clean.

“Big thanks to Bay View Inn for providing us with ice cold Coronas after the beach clean. Thanks to Callington Volunteer Litter Pick Group, Ado from Widemouth Task Force, Simon from the Westcountry Rivers Trust, Paul from Bude Rubbish Action Group and everyone who attended and did their bit.”

Zoe added: “We are looking forward to returning to home ground at the end of our project on September 29 for our finale event. Get the date in your diaries!”
