SHEBBEAR College Sixth Form pupil Grace Beal (above) from Bideford carried the Olympic Flame through Paignton on Sunday, May 20. Seventeen-year-old Grace was selected from over 28,000 applicants to be a torchbearer in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. Grace has been a member of the World Aims group at Shebbear College for five years running. She has helped run the Eco-Schools Group, is helping the college to achieve their 'Green Flag', assisted in setting up and running the Fair Trade Shop and also helps with the recycling and organisation of major charity events. Grace hopes to travel to Uganda next year with a group from the college to teach English in schools, and to help build toilets and better facilities for the communities in that area. All of these achievements were taken into account during the selection process.
