A FLORIST from Launceston was delighted to win ‘best florist in Cornwall’ at ‘The Muddy Stilettos Awards 2018’ ahead of British Flower Week (June 18 to 24), whilst a beauty spa added to the town’s success bagging the ‘best beauty salon’.
Donna Cornish, based in Launceston, was delighted to come away from the awards ceremony on May 25 with a win.
She attended with Claire Banbury of Banbury’s Beauty Spa who also secured one of the prestigious prizes.
Sophie Baker, who is the creator and editor of the Muddy Stilettos online blog, runs the Muddy Awards.
She believes in promoting fabulous independent Cornish businesses. Businesses were nominated by their customers in one of the 24 ‘lifestyle categories’. Then the top five were announced.
From then the voting for the finals began from May 14 to 18.
The overall winners were announced on May 21, with winners being invited to a drinks event held at Penrose Kitchen on May 25 to receive their awards.
Donna said her passion for flowers started at a young age, she had her first floristry job at the age of 15 while on work experience in a well respected local florist.
In 2009 Donna achieved her lifelong ambition of setting up her own floristry business and hasn’t looked back since.
After coming in third last year Donna said she was ‘blown away’ to have won this year.
She said: “All I can say is, I was blown away to find out I had won and thank all of my wonderful customers for their continued support and for also voting for me to win!”
Claire said she was also thankful for the support of her loyal clients. She has been running the spa from its Launceston venue for three years now and was delighted to have once again won a Muddy Stilettos award, having previously won one back in 2016.
She said: “I would like to say we are absolutely thrilled to win as we won in 2016, we were a finalist in 2017 and won again in 2018. Just an achievement to be in the finals let alone win. So lovely to have the support of our lovely clients.
“We had been at our new salon for three years this August and the salon is exceptionally busy with such a loyal clientele.”
Both businesses received a certificate and winning rosette.
