IN this Division Two top of the table clash, played in extremely heavy conditions, Week's manager Tom Hannaford prepared his team well and they came out on top to claim three valuable points, writes Chris Warneford.
Both sides had a good chance to take the lead in the first 15 minutes. With the Saints 'keeper stranded off his line Rob Pearce had an open goal but the ball drifted agonisingly just outside the post. While at the other end Week's Matt Pepperell, who had a solid game at the back, made an excellent and vital tackle in the box to deny the visitors.
After sustained pressure a well worked move from defence down the right wing put Rob Pearce through, who beat the defender and struck it just inside the post to put Week ahead after 35 minutes.
The Saints came out strongly in the second half with an early strike just hitting the outside of the post, but against the run of play Week increased their lead when Rob Pearce got his second from a well struck shot into the top corner.
The visitors replied through player/manager Martin Hicks three minutes later and continued to pressurise Week's defence. In a tense last 20 minutes the Saints pushed forward but the home side defended well and hung onto their slender lead.
