THE Government would seem to be right to call time on subsidies for onshore wind turbines. A two-mile section of road leading from the A39 north of Kilkhampton was straightened and widened at a cost of £680,000, solely to facilitate the movement of components for two turbines at East Youlstone.

Cornwall County Council assures that the full cost has been borne by the developer. If the economics of turbines can justify this sort of cost they would appear to be over-generously subsidised.

Another large turbine has been recently erected in the next field to the Eastcott solar park north of Kilkhampton. The turbine is in the field to the south of the solar park. With the autumn sun lower in the sky the turbine casts a shadow over the solar panels! Is this not green energy madness?
