TOM Speare celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday, surrounded by his very large family!

Tom lives at Hanover House, Bude, and was joined by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in toasting his remarkable life.

He also received a card from the Queen.

Tom was born on the December 8, 1916 in Inwardleigh, Devon. He was born into a farming family and continued this career throughout most of his life.

When he first worked on the farm he had to learn to plough with horses.

Tom was a member of the home guard during the Second World War and was one of the first people in the village to have a televison, so many people joined him to watch the Queen’s Coronation.

In 1960 Tom, wife Nora and their family moved to Barton farm, Delabole, where the family became key members of the village community.

He was a very keen Delabole United fan where he often watched his sons play, along with often sharing a few strong words with the referee!

Tom has been a lifelong Plymouth Argyle fan too celebrating his 90th birthday at Home Park!

He worked as a volunteer driver for the local council into his 80s and moved to Bude around 15 years ago.

He has only recently retired from travelling up and down the canal path in Bude on his mobility scooter where a lot of people recognise him.

In total Tom has six children, 17 grand children, 29 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and the growing family shows no sign of slowing down!
