THE staff at Waitrose in Holsworthy recently donated a cheque to the Hilltop Animal Haven, situated near Tamar Lakes, as part of the stores ‘green token scheme’.

Waitrose runs a ‘green token scheme’ in their Holsworthy branch that allows shoppers to vote for their favourite charity from three chosen to be promoted each month.

Hilltop Animal Haven received £403 through this scheme, which will be used to help buy feed and other essentials to assist their work.

Hilltop Animal Haven is a registered charity that offers a home to animals whose owners can no longer give them the care and attention they require.

The original founder, Charlie Bingham, died earlier this year, leaving the centre in the more than capable hands of Sammy Bell, Natalie Rowe and Jonathan Alison, who have pledged to continue the essential service and ensure that the resident animals at the centre can remain there.

Sammy said: “We are truly grateful to Waitrose for their generosity; it means so much to us. Many thanks to those supporters who posted their tokens in our box and to Barry Butler for organising it.”
