THE ongoing discussion of the toilets in Bude were, again, the hot topic at the recent full council meeting at Bude-Stratton Town Council on June 2.
With car parks heaving with tourists and locals enjoying the warm weather on Bude’s beaches, further concerns have been raised about the future of Bude’s toilets.
According to Cllr Alan Biggs, the council’s money is going down the drain, as nothing has been done about the toilets still.
He said: “We could sign a tenancy, which will transfer the toilets from Cornwall Council to Bude-Stratton Town Council. Lawyers are being lawyers, and I think we either need to get new lawyers or just get things done quickly. This is going on for far too long.”
It has been agreed that the interior could be repaired, but as for the structure of the toilets, Cornwall Council aren’t commenting on this, which has worried Cllr Biggs. He then asked the council to approve a basic survey of the toilets.
He added: “It would be unwise for us to take on the toilets until we know the structure is sound. For a town trying to move up, the image is certainly letting it down.”
Town clerk Donna James explained that she could meet with CORMAC in the future to look at the toilets and come to an agreement.
