PARKING issues in Camelford have been discussed once again by the town council, after problems with 'misuse' of Churchfield Car Park were raised by one of its members, writes Suzanne Cleave.
At the meeting of the town council on Tuesday, February 16, Cllr Bonnie Grills requested that pay and display in the car park be placed on the agenda for discussion.
Camelford dropped parking charges in 2007 following protests by residents and a referendum against them.
Cllr Grills said the council look at parking problems in the town and made three suggestions:
She suggested three options:
● Some form of parking permit for each household;
● A parking permit for people who work in the town who are not
residents (possibly at a nominal weekly rate); or
● Traders look at how they can refund charges through people shopping in the town.
Cllr Grills added: "I feel we, as a council, should look very carefully at all the aspects of parking in Churchfield Car Park and work together to solve the increasing problem we are facing today."
Cllr Elliott said he was against parking charges being re-introduced, but Cllr Elford said: "Something's got to be done, it's got to be sorted out. It's very unfair how it's working at the moment."
Cllr Robert Rotchell proposed that the issue of parking be put before the Amenities Committee to discuss and bring back to full council. All councillors voted in favour.
