MEMBERS of the Tintagel Playing Fields Committee have handed over a number of cheques from the proceeds of the Tintagel Fun Day, held in the summer.

The Fun Day, held on May 31, included a 5k fun run/community walk and a 10k fun road race. The grand sum of £1,800 was raised on the day.

Last Friday, cheques were presented to a number of local groups and organisations. These were Cornwall Hospice Care (£700); Tintagel School Disco (£200); Tintagel Surf Life Saving Club (£200); Tintagel Age Concern (£200); Tintagel Skate Park (£250) and Tintagel Playing Fields (£250).

Heidi Burgess, secretary of the Tintagel Playing Fields Committee, extended thanks, on behalf of the committee to everyone who was a part of the fun day — runners, walkers, spectators, local businesses who donated raffle prizes, sponsors, sellers and

buyers!

She added: "A huge amount of voluntary work went into planning this day. An event like this would not be possible without the support of our community and the visitors that travel to our part of the world. Some of our

competitors and supporters travelled a great distance especially for the

fundraising weekend.

"The whole weekend was a winner with the 5k-10k Run/Walk, Fun Day and Boot Fair on Sunday, May 31, and a charity music and barbecue weekend hosted by the Tintagel Arms. A huge thank you must go Mr Ian McNeice alias Bert Large, the local plumber in the popular Doc Martin series, who kindly donated his time to support us with an

exceptional raffle prize."

Heidi said the committee were aware of some problems encountered on the day, and she thanked everyone, especially the marshals for their patience and constructive feedback.

"Next year we have had the offer of radio controlled mics and are in the process of consultation with educators for

marshalling and event planning procedures and protocols. This event has become more successful than we imagined and is a huge learning curve for us. We truly believe this event can grow to a full

community involvement and benefit all.

"We hope everyone enjoyed the day. Keep walking and exercising as so many of today's so called 'modern diseases' are preventable with a little bit of exercise each day. We will see you next year at our Tintagel Fun Day and Fun Run events,

raising more money for more national and local charities."
