PUPILS at Tintagel Primary School are well behaved and display positive attitudes towards their learning. These are among the key findings of a report from Ofsted Inspectors which also highlights the quality of education provided for children in the Foundation Stage and the care and support provided for pupils.

However, the Inspectors also express concerns over some aspects of pupils' achievement and standards and the quality of teaching and learning. While they acknowledge that the Headteacher is aware of the need to raise achievement and has a realistic plan for moving the school forward which, they say, is already helping to bring about improvements, the report concludes that not all pupils are currently making the progress they should. As a result the school has been given a Notice to Improve.

The report praises the school's broad and balanced curriculum which, it says, meets the needs and interests of most pupils. It also commends the care and support provided by staff.

The report also

commends the work which is being done to improve standards by the school's leadership and management team, which it says, is already bringing about improvements in pupils' progress and contributes to the school's demonstration of its capacity to improve.

The report identifies a number of areas of action for Governors and staff to raise standards:

Raise the quality of teaching and learning from satisfactory to good by

ensuring that :

Tasks and activities are closely matches to pupils' needs and interests.

Assessment is consistently used across the school to plan learning.

Marking provides pupils with clear guidance about how they can improve or develop their work.

Ensure that the leadership and management team, including the governors, implements effective monitoring and evaluation procedures.

Ensure that parents are helped to better support their children's learning by communicating strategies to support learning.

Help pupils better understand the multicultural nature of British society by giving them opportunities to engage actively with groups from different

cultural backgrounds.
