THE first new magazine to be produced by a Tintagel group since the 1940s has been launched in the village.
'Welcome to Tintagel' is the latest step in the community's revitalisation of its visitor centre, which continues apace. The centre is a valuable community asset and an important facility for visitors to North Cornwall. It welcomes on average 90,000 visitors per annum to the area, provides a wealth of information about local history and attractions, promotes local businesses and offers friendly advice to visitors from all over the world.
It was managed by Cornwall Council and made an annual trading loss during 2009 and 2010. The authority decided to withdraw financial support for the centre and closed it in September 2011. They offered it for sale at a heavily discounted price to a profit oriented enterprise that would have been contractually committed to run it as a visitor centre for only three years.
