THIS autumn visitors to Tintagel Castle may be in for a surprise as they explore the dark age remains of Cornwall's most iconic castle.

As well as discovering the legends of King Arthur and enjoying the breathtaking views, they may also encounter its newest residents — a flock of rare Soay sheep.

The castle's new woolly residents were welcomed to the island on Monday, September 9, and have already made themselves firmly at home exploring the furthest reaches of the island.

With origins in the western wilds of Scotland, the rare breed Soays are ideally suited to both Tintagel's rocky terrain and the unpredictable British winter climate.
