On a grey misty morning, Bill Pearce went to Tintagel after a bleak drive across Davidstow Moor from Saltash to meet some of the happy gang who had helped at the Tintagel Big Breakfast, in aid of the Cornwall Air Ambulance. Not everybody who helped was able to be in the Sunday School to present the proceeds of the breakfast (£812) to Mr Pearce. Once again the Friends of Tintagel had a successful event and thanked everybody who went along, enabling them to make this wonderful donation. Mr Pearce said: "The Air Ambulance first flew in the skies over Cornwall on April 1, 1987. It was the first dedicated helicopter ambulance in the UK. Since its inception it has been funded by the general public with no help from central government or the National Lottery. Operational costs in 1987 were £5,000 weekly. Today that figure has escalated to over £25,000 per week. Over £8,000 a week is raised by the Cornwall Air Care Lottery supported by many local residents. The Saltash shop continues to prosper. A recent initiative selling second hand furniture is also creating valuable additional income. The £812 raised by Tintagel's 'Big Breakfast' was a magnificent effort and deeply appreciated."
