EIGHTEEN people, including the vicar, turned out with their gardening kit to cut the hedges, clear the leaves and generally tidy up around St Breward Church and the graveyards recently.

The leaves, weeds and moss around the building, lane and pathway were cleared away. Even the gutters and gully on the church were attended to — those below had to dodge the buckets of debris thrown down! As ever, there was happy chatter and banter, which helped the work along.

Tea and homemade cake sustained the workers and also a walker who popped in and was delighted to be offered refreshments — she was too late to help!

Jeremy Hooper, churchwarden, said: “A big thank you to all who came.”
