MAURICE John Davey (Liberal Democrats, pictured) has been elected as the new councillor for the South Ward of Launceston Town Council.
At the by election, which was held on Thursday, February 9, Maurice received 160 votes — a mere three more than his nearest rival.
The four other candidates who stood for election polled: Leighton Stuart Penhale, 157 votes; Anna Elizabeth Duke, 104 votes; Susan Elaine Alfar (known as Roberts Alfar, Labour), 74 votes; and Ashley Thomas Crapp (community volunteer, independent), 64 votes.
Maurice has lived in Cornwall all of his life; born in Stoke Climsland and relocating to Launceston 35 years ago.
Many will recognise him as the Landlord of the Bell Inn, which he has run for the previous seven years alongside his wife, Jane.
A jubilant Maurice told the 'Post': "I would like to thank everyone in Launceston who voted in last Thursday's closely fought town council election."
