THE annual Launceston Steam and Vintage Rally didn’t disappoint, and the three-day event saw people from across the Post area flocking through the gates.

The event, held at Five Lanes, Altarnun, from Saturday, May 27, to bank holiday Monday, May 30, saw a great turnout of vintage tractor and motor enthusiasts — both young and old.

The event always proves to be a great day out with a number of attractions for all the family.

It also raises money for local charities and organisations.

Chairman of the event, Matt Garrett, told the Post: “It went very well indeed. We were very lucky with the weather, even though there was rain forecast. We had three successful days — lots of good feedback from both the visitors and visiting public. Numbers were as high as ever.”

Visitors were treated to spectacular displays of vintage cars, tractors, bikes and more, as well as being given the opportunity to have a tractor or steam engine ride, and experience the vast selection on offer in the food and beer tent.

There was also bouncy castles and rides for children, along with a collectables, models and crafts tent.

A beer tent, restaurant and catering vans ensured rally-goers were well fed and watered.

In its 35th year, the steam rally was established in 1982 at Launceston Rugby Club, moving to Five Lanes in 2009 due to its expansion over the years.

The event is organised by a dedicated group of committee volunteers, illustrating ‘great work from all involved’.

Speaking about the highlights, Matt added: “Other than finishing and going home, and the stress being over, the whole show’s been a great deal of fun.”
