THIS marks a momentous occasion in Tregadillett Brownies’ 40-year history — three members of the same family have made their promise with the same Unit.
Brown Owl Sara Fuge took over the Unit in September 1992 while her daughter was in the Unit. In September 1993, Emma Boucher became a Brownie when she said her promise and was enrolled into the Unit. Then in the spring of 2000, Bryony Ellis became a Brownie when she said her promise.
At a recent meeting, Bryony’s daughter Maisie, whose is Emma’s niece, became a Brownie too.
Many things have changed over the years, such as the uniform and some of the badges that it is possible to gain these days but the basics of Girlguiding are still the same. Fun, friendship, experiences and learning skills that will be used throughout life are still at the heart of the organisation that is run entirely by volunteers.
Emma will tell you of many things she has done during her time in Girlguiding. Starting off with going on ‘Pack Holidays’ and trips with Brownies, camps with Guides and Rangers, then completing the leadership qualification and running her own Units of Rainbows and Guides, becoming district commissioner for Launceston district and currently commissioner for the North Cornwall division, travelling abroad and of course recently being one of the volunteers who were invited to the grounds of Windsor Castle for the royal wedding.
Maisie has already had experience from her time at Rainbows and is now starting her journey in the Brownies. Hopefully, she will continue in Girlguiding like her auntie.
If anyone is interested in joining Girlguiding either as a child or as a volunteer, they can register an interest via the ‘join us’ section of the website www.girlguiding.org.uk
