THOSE who come past St Swithin’s Church, Launcells, will be surprised and perhaps delighted to see new signs directing all to the church.
Then, when people get to the church’s car park, they will see another new sign — this is a new sign for the St Swithin’s holy well.
Sally and Keith Halsey are the kind sign makers. Their interest began when their daughter Rose married Max at St Swithin’s Church last September.
The main wedding party stayed at the Launcells Barton wedding venue. Sally and Keith put up the notices to direct wedding visitors to the Barton car park. At that time, they noticed that the signage for St Swithin’s Church was in need of replacement.
Sally and Keith’s son, who lives at Launcells Cross, donated the slate to make the St Swithin’s well sign. The slate is almost certainly local.
The signs on the telegraph pole which directs one down to the church are made from seasoned oak, and hopefully will last many, many years.
A spokesperson said: “We at St Swithin’s are so very grateful.”
