THE third annual Community Fun Day for rural Holsworthy was held on a gloriously sunny Wednesday, June 16, at Broadwoodwidger Primary School.
Organised by the Holsworthy Neighbourhood Beat Team and the primary school to bring information to local people and encourage them to have a go at new activities, many people young and old turned up to support the event and try out what was on offer.
Special guest Chief Supt Joanne Tennant, whose husband, sister-in-law and mother-in-law all went to Broadwoodwidger Primary School, officially opened the event at 3.15pm. Another special guest was a surprise Merlin helicopter landing from RNAS Culdrose with a signed photograph of the magnificent machine handed over to infant teacher Mrs Cathy Farmer as a raffle prize.
Over 30 agencies and local organisations had stands, displays, entertainment and activities for people to try out and enjoy, including the Devon Fire and Rescue Service, Holsworthy Adult and Community Learning, Torridge District Council, Devon Care and Repair, Senior Council, Arthritis Care, Devon Libraries, Devon Youth Service, local churches, Holsworthy Family Workshop, Holsworthy Children's Centre, Dartmoor Rescue Group, TTVS, Ruby Country, South West Lakes and Wheels to Work.
The fun events included a bouncy castle, sumo suits, belly dancing, face painting, crafts, children's sports, a cooking demonstration and much more.
Throughout the afternoon people were invited to help create a banner to celebrate the day and this was presented to the school to take pride of place as a lasting memory of the fun day.
The organisers have expressed their thanks to sponsors Torridge District Councillor Marion Perkins, Broadwoodwidger Parish Council and the various businesses who generously donated raffle prizes.
