THANK you, Launceston!
That was the message from Launceston Carnival Committee to the people of the town following last Saturday’s carnival parade.
Not only did the weather stay dry, but it seemed as if the whole town turned out to watch and support the illuminated parade wind its way through the narrow streets.
The parade grew in size again, with more visiting bands, more floats and more walking entries.
Carnival chairman Dave Gordon told the Post: “We were delighted with how things went this year, the weather and the entries — we had some really brilliant entries that people had taken a lot of time and effort into getting ready.
“We introduced a few changes this year with safety barriers in the town centre, which made a real difference to the width of the road, allowing clear access and visibility to everyone.”
The parade was traditionally led by Launceston Town Band, followed closely by the 2015 carnival royalty looking radiant in their brightly decorated float.
A strolling jazz band and street magician entertained the crowds as they lined the streets of the town centre.
Dave continued: “We have a lot of people to thank as always, people who are vital in making carnival happen — the marshals, stewards and judges and police and, of course, this year’s sponsors and supporters.
“The committee wish to express their gratitude to Costa Coffee and the Cornwall Community Foundation for their financial support, and to ‘Dolly Boo Boo’ for hand-making the royalty tiaras and to ‘Twisted Ribbon’ for decorating the royalty float.”
There are a few vacancies on the carnival committee — if anyone is interested and is willing to attend regular meetings and work as a team to help produce the annual event, they can contact Dave Gordon on 07923 445332.
He added: “There are a few things we would like to introduce to the event, but we are unable to do so due to our small committee.”
