DECLARING your love for somebody is one thing but to advertise it is another.

But that's exactly what 86-year-old Dr John Camp has done for the last 30 years in his favourite local paper – the Review.

Mr Camp, of Coleford, has put an announcement in the paper for his wife, Jill – without fail every year – for their wedding anniversary, Valentine's Day and birthday.

This year it happens to be their 60th wedding anniversary tomorrow (Thursday, May 14).

He said: "I think the world of her – always have, always will. I've been brought up that if you marry a wonderful woman you don't stop remembering anniversaries and you show her off, and so a way I do this is by putting an announcement in the paper for her."

The couple met in Hertfordshire, where they both originate from, at a party in 1953.

John said: "I saw a girl across the room and that was that. Two years later we married and went on to have four children and 10 grandchildren.

"We moved to the Forest in 1957 and lived for a year in Staunton before moving to Coleford, where we still live, where I worked as doctor and Jill helped. In the 1980s Jill became the first lady Mayor of Coleford, which she did for four years, and I remember being so proud of her.

"We still hold hands in the street and work together as a team. We have a huge family and so will spend our anniversary celebrating it with them."
