THE Old Bank project in Camelford is appealing for members of the public to vote for them in the Aviva Community Fund scheme.

The Old Bank, Camelford’s new community space, is now up and running in the old NatWest building in the centre of the town. In order to improve the facilities and cover running costs while members of the project build up the usage of space, the team behind the project is still applying for funding, vital to the general upkeep of the space and continuing to provide a spot for groups and organisations to use.

When all three banks closed in Camelford, the landlord of the old NatWest building offered it to the local community project, the Maia Project, and thus the Old Bank came about.

With a great amount of support and numerous ideas of what could take place in the Old Bank, the team is urging members of the public to vote for them to receive funding in the region of £5,001 to £10,000.

This money would pay for the installation of a disabled toilet, of which the project has received quotes in the region of £3,330, but fear it may cost more due to the thickness of the walls; kitchen appliances, including a new cooker; fire safety measures; as well as overall running costs, of which the team have recently received a rates demand for £4,683 until March 2017.

Even with the possibility of a charity discount, the team is still looking at having to pay £140 per month.

To vote, visit https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/16-374. There are ten votes for each email address.

A programme of events is due to be launched at the Camelford Carnival, and will be available on the project’s Facebook page, ‘The Old Bank’. This includes a walking group, Sing & Play for pre-school children, a cinema and film club, a youth café and many other weekly groups, plus a Christmas Craft Fair taking place on the evening of the lights switch on, on November 26 from 3pm until 9pm.
