The new North Devon Hospice outreach centre in Holsworthy is becoming a step closer to completion every day.
Building work on the The Long House is progressing swiftly and on track for a summer opening.
The Long House will allow the hospice to provide more support to people in Holsworthy and the surrounding area. The centre will not have beds, but will offer one-to-one support, group support, outpatient clinics with the hospice consultant, as well as complementary therapies.
Catherine Faulkner, North Devon Hospice's project lead for The Long House, said it was 'amazing' to see the building taking shape.
"We have the roof, walls and windows installed, and work has begun on lime-rendering the straw bales which have been used for insulation. The next stage is to work on the internal walls and partitions, with a hope to being open this summer.
"So much hard work has gone into getting to this stage, and so much support has been shown by the community, it really is heartening to see things coming together."
Catherine said the importance of its design was becoming evident.
"We looked long and hard for an existing space that would provide the right environment for our patients and their families. In the end, a purpose-built facility was the only way to go, because this will be a sanctuary for those who need our care and support.
"Seeing the plans become a reality, I can tell this will be a very homely, welcoming and relaxing environment for those affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. Something, which is often needed during such tough times."
