PARENTS and staff on the PTA at St Breward Community Primary School (part of the North Cornwall Learning Trust) have launched an ambitious fundraising campaign, hoping to raise £5,000 to support the small village primary school, which urgently requires new equipment and outdoor storage to withstand the elements of Bodmin Moor.

Parents and families are invited to attend what the St Breward PTA have called ‘The Great Winter School Fete’, which will be held under cover at the Royal Cornwall Events Centre on February 12.

Children’s groups, including forest schools, gym clubs, science groups and other sports teams will all have stands and stalls at the event, offering demonstrations and workshops — a chance to get a taste of extra-curricular activities on offer in North Cornwall. Alongside will be an opportunity to shop from a number of local businesses, including cupcakes, flowers, knits, pet goodies, local artists and craft makers, and more, as well as enjoy children’s activities including face painting and traditional games and disco. The results of the children’s art competition, on the theme of ‘Love is...’ will also be revealed.

Sarah Chapman, events planner and St Breward PTA parent, said: “After more than a year of repeated lockdowns, with very few fundraising opportunities or children’s events, I wanted to bring together the wider community to celebrate local businesses as well as host an awesome family friendly event that families across North Cornwall can attend. Village schools have been hard hit in recent years due to lack of funding and if we can host a fun event while also raising money to provide new outdoor storage containers and equipment for the school, as well as subsidising school trip places for those that need it, we will have done well”.

Helen Ward, headteacher at St Breward Community School, added: “The determination, enthusiasm and passion shown by the PTA of our small primary school up on the moors is phenomenal. This is a huge project to raise much-needed funds for the benefit of all pupils, supported by parents representing 45% of the 54 pupils on roll. We look forward to the support of the wider community in making the day a success for all involved. It promises to be quite an event!”
