BRINGING a smile to people’s faces Holsworthy Covid-19 Mutual Aid (HC19MA) is at it again — this time with a baking competition.
The Great Holsworthy Bake Off was launched this week, with local families being invited to collect a food parcel to enable everyone to join in the fun and get baking, no matter what their skill level.
Thanks to the group’s numerous volunteers and support from the Devon Community Foundation 240 food hampers were made available to local residents at the Memorial Hall and a further 90 were donated to local care homes. Following this success the group’s coordinators set to work creating another new project that this time could get the whole community involved.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Jon Hutchings said: “We went back to a few of the people we had supplied with a hamper and asked them what they would want in a future package. Most of them said the same thing, which was something that the whole family could get involved with.
“We have got 200 packs to make bread and fairy cakes because they are some fairly easy things for people to bake.”
Recipes and the ingredients needed will be provided in the packs, giving everyone the same starting block. People will be able to collect a pack from the Memorial Hall once again and enter their completed bakes by posting images to HC19MA’s Facebook page.
Jon said: “We will be able to take some packs to people who are unable to attend the Memorial Hall but people will need to remember we don’t have hundred of volunteers so the numbers will be limited, but we will do what we can. People will need to ring the Mutual Aid mobile number to book a deliver slot when they are made available.”
To help demonstrate that anyone can bake Jon was joined by fellow HC19MA coordinator Nigel Kenneally in the kitchen. They filmed a short ‘tutorial’ entitled “How ‘not to make’ cup cakes”, which can be viewed on the HC19MA Facebook page — however, they do suggest people follow the recipe and not their advice.
To ensure Covid guidelines are followed ingredients can be collected during people’s daily exercise from the Memorial Hall on Saturday, January 30, between 10am and 1pm or to book a delivery call 07340 633055.
