Grouse Foursomes Medal at Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club — a tough format saw a smaller than normal field for this year's Grouse competition. Scoring was good but it was one of those days that 'what and if' came into the final equation of results, writes Barry Sykes.

Spare a thought for Darrell Troop playing with his son Andrew. On their approach to the 18th. Darrell played the wrong ball and so incurring penalty shots, but to make matters worse he missed a two footer on 18 and the pair came second by one half a shot. It is understood that Debbie was the referee that Sunday evening at home.

Young golfer Den Haydon once again showed that he is an up and coming golfer with much potential for the future.

70.5 Den Haydon & Steve Bartrop; 71 Jack Wellington & Ryan Curtis; 71 Andrew & Darrell Troop; 71.5 Jim Ryan & Llew Courtenay.

May Extra Medal — Four players managed to break par in what is hoped will be the start of the summer weather. Wall to wall sunshine and very little wind.

Leading the field by two clear shots was Ian Harrison on a nett 68 dropping a shot as a bonus prize.

68 Ian Harrison; 70 Nick Houghton; 70 Lawrie Bridges; 70 Ian Croxton.

Spring Open — Summer is on its way with the first 'open' of the year - the Spring Open. A large field with tee offs spreading from 08.00 to 14.30 saw teams of three playing three ball better ball format.

Three teams managed to break the 80 barrier, two from away players and the third a Bude team. Played in the hottest day of the year so far water and sun cream were the order of the day. Top team travelled up from Lostwithiel with the third placed team doing a cross the border raid from Holsworthy.

82 Dave Phillips, Richard Dart & Rob Capewell – Lostwithiel GC;

81 Simon Greatbatch, Jack Wellington & Ryan Willshire – Bude GC;

81 Bruce Wickett, Tim Greenslade & Andrew May – Holsworthy/Bude GC; 79 Graham Stokes, Nick Houghton & Andy McDonald; 78 Bert Guilfoyle, Rob Smeeth & Brian Clarke.
