LAUNCESTON College Class of 2016 celebrated in style as they marked the completion of their GCSE years.

The sun shone for the 1,000 students, parents and members of the local community who greeted and roared their early morning arrival via wheelbarrow, tractor, classic American Lincoln or stretch limousine.

Boys and girls from Year 11 had been up for hours preparing for the day with hairdressing appointments from 5am; all looked magnificent as they were greeted from their cars and then walked the red carpet into their Record of Achievement ceremony.

Principal Bryan Maywood presented a number of awards, which included 100% attendance for the full five years for Rebecca McAlpine as well as awards for faultless entire college life records; homework, punctuality, politeness and respect were all perfect for Thomas Bailey, Ieuan Bluett, Katie Bower, Chloe Hockin, Louis March, Olivia Mills, Jasmine Nessa and Billie Jo Turl.

Executive principal Jack Jackson said: “I am hugely proud of this year group; their politeness, respect and determination to succeed has made them both a pleasure to know and our most successful GCSE year group in waiting.”

A full day, which included morning tea and cakes, individual and tutor group photographs and Year 10 student waitered lunch buffet, concluded with an emotional final assembly.

The Leavers Committee presented their own interesting awards, including ‘Best Eyes’, ‘Person Most Likely to Rule The World’ and ‘Cutest Couple’, while also thanking members of staff Corinne Greening and Alex Sandford for the work and support given to make the day so special.

The students left in style…for at least for a few days…with their return due next week for the college’s largest Year 12 induction!
