IF YOUR idea of cubs and beavers is that they learn all there is to know about food beside the campfire, you’re way out of date. These days they go to Tesco on a Farm To Fork trail.

Beaver Leader, Alison Hurn, took the beavers of the 1st Callington Scout Group on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Callington supermarket. When not sampling exotic fruit and cheeses, the youngsters enjoyed a visit to the in-store bakery, a look inside the freezer, and a go on the tills.

Mrs Hurn said: “Farm to Fork is a great, fun way to introduce the young children to the way a supermarket runs on a day to day basis.

“It teaches them simple food facts, such as where their food comes from. They are shown how bread is made, plus they get to taste an array of foods they may not normally have.”
