DOZENS of riders turned out for the Tetcott Hunt's fun ride and they certainly weren't disappointed.
Set well off the beaten track, the 12-mile route between Poundstock and Week St Mary covered wooded areas, extensive pastureland and included jumps and a water crossing for added interest.
Hunt chairman Julian Smeeth said: "I was delighted with the day which attracted riders from as far a field as Truro, Bideford and Okehampton. Speaking to many who supported this fundraising event I didn't hear a single complaint and everybody thought it was excellent.
"Even the drizzle didn't stop people from smiling and enjoying themselves. A lady from Camelford who had been to seven fun rides this year claimed without question that this was by far the best."
Many youngsters took part including 13-year-old Stuart Walter from West Putford who has ridden horses since he was three.
Stuart said: "I really enjoyed myself and to be able to ride across lots of fields made it so nice. I particularly enjoyed galloping and it is always good to go over the jumps."
Vicki Palmer from Pyworthy also had a thoroughly enjoyable time, and said: "It was absolutely brilliant and one of the very best fun rides I've been on for many years. The jumps made all the difference and with the water crossing it made it more like a cross-country course."
On their return many riders tucked into pasties, bacon rolls and hot dogs prepared by members of the hunt's Supporters Club.
The hunt committee expressed its thanks to all those involved in helping to raise more than £800.
