Earlier in the week on Tuesday evening, we held a very enjoyable concert in aid of the NSPCC charity at St. Johns Church, Tenby. The soloists on the night were brother and sister Talfan and Siriol Jenkins, from Wiseman's Bridge. Talfan is 14 and Siriol has just passed her 16th birthday.

They began with the Victorian Kitchen Garden suite where Talfan played soprano saxophone and Siriol the harp.

Following this, Siriol played four Welsh waltzes on the harp and finally to demonstrate their considerable versatility Talfan played saxophone and Siriol piano for Pedro Iturralde's Pequeña Czarda.

The audience showed their appreciation both during the concert and again at the end of the concert with an enthusiastic round of applause for these young musicians.

Siriol is now to appear in the St. David's Cathedral Musical Festival on Saturday, May 30, with a piano recital which follows on from her success in the young musician of Dyfed competition. This is a significant recognition of talent as the festival has a strong reputation for excellence and has made a substantial contribution to the cultural life of West Wales. With appearances from some of the finest musical artists in the Britain, it has built up a reputation as one of the greatest classical music festivals in Wales.

We were pleased to provide a platform for these young musicians and it is something which we see as very much part of our objective as a choir.

I am pleased to say that the very worthy children's charity NSPCC raised £340 for their cause. The choir were very impressed also with the delicious and comprehensive buffet which they laid on for us after the concert.

Then it's the 'Aussies.' Our next concert is on Thursday, May 14, in St. Mary's and this is the second celebration concert as part of our 40th anniversary year, so it is another big one. In this concert, we will appear with the Australian Welsh Male Voice Choir and also with another local choir, Pembroke Male Voice Choir. This is bound to be a really good night for the audience and the choir. Tickets will be available on the night, but if you wish to be sure of getting one, see our website at http://www.tenbymalechoir.org">www.tenbymalechoir.org. for details.

Later in the year, as part of our 40th anniversary year, we will also be going to Malta on tour. For one of the choir, who sang on Tuesday night, our oldest member George Pryce it's a special occasion. George at 92-years-old will be returning to Valetta having visited there for the first time in 1943 on HMS Illustrious to deliver much-needed Spitfires to aid the defence of that tiny but so strategically important island. Whilst most of the choir will be looking for not too quiet a visit, George is perhaps hoping that there will be a few less fireworks this time.

Why not come along to a rehearsal and learn about what choir membership is all about? Rehearsals are on most Tuesdays and Thursdays unless we have a concert on one of those nights. So come along, have a listen and discuss what it's all about with other members with a post-rehearsal pint. Alternatively, check out our website (see above) for contact details and different ways in which you can get to know more about it all.
