The last mini competition of the winter programme 2014-2015 was held at the club meeting on Thursday, April 9, with the theme being 'sport.' Thirty-one digital images were entered, these being judged by the 23 members present, scoring on a basis of one to five. The subjects ranged from children's sports, car and truck racing and Ironman Wales to point-to-point horse racing and cricket.
Such was the quality of images that scoring was a close thing, with a joint fourth place 'Nearly There' - Charles Kidd and 'Thundercat Race' - Neil Thomas, in third place 'Square Drive' - Neil Thomas and joint first place awarded to 'Foggy Football' - Gillian MacKay and 'Anticipation' - Dave Bolton.
Following a break for refreshments, chairman Neil Thomas welcomed last year's chairman, Roy Packer, who explained how he had gone about publishing his book, 'Through My Eyes.' He told the audience this book was a record primarily for his family members and also to remind him of the wonders of nature and the natural beauty of our planet.
Using his Lightroom programme 'How to Build a Book,' he first had to select the format/layout of the book and choose the images to fit this layout. Roy spoke of the pitfalls he came across, what font size and colours, applying backgrounds.
A copy of his book was available for all to see, with over 180 images and text; an excellent book to adorn anyone's bookshelf.
To finish off the evening, Roy gave all a viewing of some of the many images he took in Varanasi, Iadoba and Gir in India, titled 'Le Passage to India.'
April 23 - 'In the Making' - a talk by Gareth Martin.
