A TEMPORARY upgrade has been made to the free WiFi in Holsworthy over the St Peter’s Fair week to keep up with demand.

Devon Tech Services have temporarily installed two new access points in strategic locations in the town square, with the aim of providing the best possible coverage.

Steven Anderson, of Devon Tech Services who established the Holsworthy Free WiFi project, said: “There’s also a temporary upgrade to 5GHz which should help keep both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands evenly loaded for better performance throughout. Once St Peter’s Fair is finished, we will be drafting plans for the network upgrade.”

When asked about other upcoming updates to the WiFi in Holsworthy, Steven said: “We wont be expanding to Fore Street this year, but we will be concentrating on upgrading the network to WiFi AC Dual Band, which means newer devices such as iPhones will work much better with the network.

“This is going to be an expensive upgrade and it’s going to take some time gathering the money to finance this, but once done, the network will be even more reliable.

“The older units that are currently in use now would then be used for other areas of the town which we are yet to confirm. It’s looking unlikely that Fore Street will be covered for some time. “
