THE team at Little Bakehouse in Launceston teamed up with the Alzheimer’s Society last Thursday, by taking part in the Cup Cake Day.

Owners Suzanne and Phil Hiscott, decided to take part in the charity fundraiser as the condition is close to their hearts after Suzanne’s dad, Graham Pickering, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last year.

Suzanne explained: “The diagnosis was a real shock to all of us, however we had seen little tiny signs for a while, but we put it down to just getting older.

“Dad was always a quietly clever man. He was always able to make things, fix things and until he retired was a senior lecturer at Bournemouth & Poole college, specialising in computer aided design and manufacture.

“Dad still thinks he can drive and do everything he used to, but he can’t. He struggles to walk for any distance and cannot remember what he was doing 10 minutes ago. He still remembers me though, at least for now.”

Suzanne’s parents moved down to Cornwall to be closer to her and her family, but because of how busy she is, they weren’t seeing as much of her as they would have liked.

After the Alzheimer’s signs started to show, and the diagnosis was given during the early part of last year, Suzanne’s parents made the decision to move back to Dorset.

Taking part in the national Cup Cake Day allowed Suzanne and the team to give something back and support the Alzheimers Society.

Last week, the team got baking batches of delicious cupcakes. They were met with some challenges, particularly when their oven broke down.

Unfortunately they only lost one batch of cupcakes, as the ladies all pulled together in the preparation to feed some hungry customers!

Suzanne said: “It all went really well. A lot of the locals and our regulars regularly check our Facebook page and because I updated the page with the Cup Cake Day news, they supported it.”

Their efforts raised £249.91 and Suzanne was delighted with how it went.

“I didn’t expect that much. I don’t know what I expected but that was great.”
