IT had been so good to return to the chapel parlour in Coads Green that the decision was made to have the usual monthly meeting, on November 10, as well as a craft workshop, run by secretary, Pat Mallett, on November 17.
Coads Green member, Gerry Rennie, was the speaker for the meeting, presenting an illustrated talk about her completion of all of the 282 Scottish Munros, (which are mountains over 3,000 feet), with her husband in 2019. This achievement had taken them 33 years, as it was not something that they had ever intended to finish, especially as their home is in Cornwall. Their shared love of mountains took them all over Scotland, accessing some of the more remote mountains by train, bicycle and boat. The Cuillins of Skye were the final peaks to be climbed and were a fitting finale to a wonderful experience.
Barbara Sleep gave the vote of thanks, saying that the talk, against the backdrop of wonderful views of Scotland, had been very interesting.
The following week, Pat Mallett, led a craft workshop, showing members different ways of handcrafting their own Christmas cards. Pat demonstrated some origami to create a Christmas tree, as a centre piece for a card, and had examples of ones that she had made earlier. All the materials had been provided and the participants had a very rewarding couple of hours, experimenting with different designs and exchanging ideas.
President, Daphne Tucker, spoke on behalf of those present, to thank Pat for giving this wonderful opportunity to be involved in a creative activity, whilst enjoying the company of others, again.
Alison Gribble and Pat are to give a cookery demonstration, on behalf of the Cornwall Federation, on Thursday, November 25, in the village hall at Coads Green, and members will support by providing the refreshments.
The flower of the month competition was won by Barbara Sleep, with Vivienne Daniel taking second place. Christine Walters won the raffle.
The next meeting will take place on December 8 in the village hall to make Christmas wreaths with Barbara. Invitations have been extended to neighbouring groups.
