BRADWORTHY, Clawton and Stratton Young Farmers Clubs will take on Bude Rugby Club’s second team in a charity rugby match at Bencoolen Meadow on Sunday, March 18.
The game will start at 2.30pm with a hog roast and food available, while the bar will be open before and after the game with all proceeds going to local charities, Talan’s Trust (in memory of Talan Penny) and Children’s Hospice South West’s Little Harbour hospice.
Bradworthy YFC’s Chris Allin, who also plays for Bude and has been one of the main organisers, said: “Last year, Bradworthy and Stratton YFCs played against each other for charity with Clawton providing a couple of players to make up the teams and we raised about £400.
“We wanted to do it again this year, but both teams were struggling to get enough players so we asked Bude seconds whether they wanted to get involved and they were more than keen.
“I asked a few of the boys in the seconds and they came up with some options. We wanted to support some local charities and in the end we decided on Talan’s Trust and the Children’s Hospice.
“Talan used to play rugby for Bude and the Bude chairman, Paul Cholwill and his family do a lot of charity work for Little Harbour, so it made sense. It’d be great to see as many people down there as possible to support and we hope that the weather is kind to us.”
