AN EVENT taking place this November will remember a special individual from Bude and raise money for research into a rare cancer.

On what would have been his 21st birthday, Bude-based charity Talan’s Trust is hosting a 21km run in and around Bude, #Tal21, to raise money for research into the rare cancer rhabdomyosarcoma at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. The event will also pay tribute to Bude youngster Talan Penny (pictured below, left), who passed away on May 4, 2017, aged 19, after living with this cancer.

Talan was a young, budding man with a love for surfing and being with his friends at his favourite locations in Bude. After he died, his mother, local florist Sarah Penny, his sister Teagan and a group of people close to Talan and the Penny family, created Talan’s Trust in order to raise money for research into rare cancers and awareness for childhood cancer in general. Talan’s Trust has also been a way of remembering Talan and everything that meant the most to him — the local beaches being just a part of that.

On November 19, 2017, just before Talan would have turned 20, Talan’s Trust hosted its first charity run — the #Tal19 — seeing over 200 runners take part.

Similarly to last year, this year’s event, to be held on Sunday, November 18, will fund two researchers at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London who are looking into the rhabdomyosarcoma disease.

The main event will cover 21km in and around Bude, while a junior event will cover a ground of 2.1km.

Runner entries are £21 for single runners, £31 for pairs, £41 for quads and £5 for juniors. To enter the #Tal21, visit talanstrust.org/tal21 and for the junior fun run, visit talanstrust.org/tal21junior.
