I WILL be voting  in the General Election on Thursday. Sadly I will not be voting for  my preferred  candidate.

Instead  I will be voting for a candidate I don't like in the hope that the candidate I really don't  like will not be elected to represent this constituency.

I suspect that I will not be alone in voting this way.

The simple truth is that our electoral system of first-past-the-post is no longer fit for purpose.

Secretly I suspect that both the Conservative and Labour parties now regret not supporting the AV (alternative vote) referendum held a couple of years ago.

If, as the opinion polls suggest,  there will be another hung Parliament, then reform of the electoral system should  be back on the agenda. The politicians owe it to the electorate.
