South West Water has restored full water supplies to approximately 500 customers affected by a burst main water pipe located in Marshgate, on Wednesday, January 27.
After South West Water gave a precautionary notice to over 500 customers last week, warning of possible water contamination from a fractured water main, engineers have now installed a temporary 30 metre long overland pipe which has replaced the four inch diameter mains pipe which had burst near a stream close to Dove Cottages at Marshgate.
Areas directly affected were given water bowsers, these were issued at places including: Roose Haven, Marshgate; Tregarth, Tresparret; Coombe Barton, Crackington Haven; and Boscastle Car Park.
Others in the surrounding areas were advised to boil all tap water for drinking and cooking.
Full pressure was restored and flushing operations were carried out. However, a precautionary boil water notice remained in force until the quality of supplies was confirmed by a monitoring programme over the two days. Alternative water supplies have been offered to registered priority and vulnerable customers in the area concerned.
Boil water notices were delivered to properties with guidance on what to do.
A company spokesman said: "We would like to apologise to all our customers in this area. The burst main was in a difficult to reach area and we issued the boil water notice as a precaution due to the risk of stream water entering the network."
An all clear notice was given by South West Water on Monday and the boil water precaution was lifted. Notices were delivered to residents and businesses informing them of the update.
