Following an announcement by the Department of Health, a public information leaflet on swine flu is being delivered to all homes locally.
The leaflet gives helpful information on swine flu including how you can help prevent it, how to recognise it and what to do if you suspect you or a member of your family have the symptoms described. The aim is to ensure that all members of the public have key information and are able to respond appropriately.
Delivery of the leaflets started on Tuesday but will take a few days to arrive at all homes.
To keep the public informed, a mass public health campaign has begun with print, TV and radio adverts. The adverts warn the public about swine flu and remind people to cover their noses and mouths with tissues when they cough and sneeze and then throw the tissue away and wash their hands.
The message is simple: CATCH IT. BIN IT. KILL IT. Members of the public who want further information can ring a single number, 0800 1 513 513, for regular recorded updates on the current situation.
Director of Public Health for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Felicity Owen, said: "It is important that people have easy access to the right information and sending out leaflets has always been part of the plan to combat a potential pandemic flu outbreak.
"This information should not cause any concern as there is no additional risk in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and to date we have no confirmed cases. The information provided is very clear and contact details are given for more advice. I urge all households to read through the leaflet carefully and follow the sensible advice that is given."
