THE Sharp’s Brewery Big Swim took place on Sunday, August 28 at Port Isaac.
There were four swims — The Little Swim at Port Isaac for the youngsters, The Not So Serious Swim and The Serious Swim both from Port Gaverne to Port Isaac, and The Super Serious Swim from Port Quinn to Port Isaac.
Organised by Sarah Coates, the event raised cash for Cornish charities and was accompanied by a party atmosphere.
After the swimming the party continued until midnight on The Platt in Port Isaac with music from local bands and musicians.
James Nicholls, Sharp’s Brewery’s senior brand manager, said: “We are proud of our home here in Cornwall and sponsoring the Big Swim enables us to be at the heart of our community. We in Cornwall are great at supporting local charities and this year all money raised will go to Little Harbour, Children’s Hospice Cornwall, Air Ambulance, Port Isaac RNLI Lifeboat Station, Port Isaac Coastguard and the National Lobster Hatchery.”
A spokesman said: “The atmosphere was tense, with classic Cornish conditions delaying the starts at all three locations. Nonetheless we are proud to be celebrating the efforts of over 450 swimmers and all their supporters that made this the largest and most successful Big Swim in its six-year history, and a great day for all involved!
“All credit to the ever growing community of enthusiasts who have shared their pleasure in the challenge that this uniquely beautiful coastline presents.
“A great crowd showed up to cheer all swimmers, the kids on their lap of the harbour, those braving the choppy seas from Port Gaverne and the endurance swimmers from Port Quin inclusive!”
