THE suspension of the Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for South West Surrey led to a late scramble for his share of the votes this week.
Electoral law dictates Patrick Haveron, who has been accused of falsifying his nomination papers, remained as a candidate on ballot papers despite his party removing their backing.
Adding to the confusion, election officers were not allowed to explain the situation at polling stations and as a result it was feared many voters would be unaware of Mr Haveron's suspension.
