ST Tudy Dance Club members surprised their leaders Alan and Lon Evans with a celebration of the 21 years of service they have given to the St Tudy Old Time and Modern Sequence Dance Club on November 8.
The club was also celebrating its 45th year, a member’s birthday and a wedding anniversary.
The evening’s theme was blue and yellow, traditional anniversary colours, and, in the sequence dance tradition, music was provided by distinguished organist Larry Green.
An excellent buffet supper was provided by members with a dance themed cake by Lynette Hollett of Cakes for Dates, which was cut by Lon and Alan. A great time was had by all members.
They were also presented with a gift of theatre tickets by the club’s senior members Brian and Diana Inch.
For 21 years Alan and Lon have taught beginners to dance, offering extra tuition as needed whilst offering current and challenging sequence dances to more experienced dancers.
They obtain new scripts as they are published, choose appropriate dances, select the music to dance to, learn the dances personally and then teach the dances as part of the programme at club evenings on almost every Thursday of the year.
In addition they have offered occasional tea dances and invite organists of national status to play for the club on special nights throughout the year.
The club draws its members from a wide area of North Cornwall and welcomes new dancers at 7.30pm on Thursday evenings at St Tudy Village Hall.
