Mrs Effie Morgan thought that she was simply going to the Bullers Arms, Marhamchurch for a quiet birthday meal with her two daughters and her son on Sunday evening, November 9. Imagine her surprise when she was greeted by some 80 relatives, friends and neighbours who had secretly gathered together to help her celebrate! Aided by drinks and a buffet, proceedings got off to a lively start with Mrs Morgan being able to catch up with many longstanding friends and see recently-arrived great grandchildren. Live music by 'Redwing' and a barn dance kept the atmosphere lively until the end of the evening. Mr and Mrs Morgan have lived in Marhamchurch for over 46 years, having moved from Whitstone. Mr Morgan, known to all as 'Jack', is in his 96th year and has recently moved into Red Gables Retirement Home, Bude. Because of his arthritis, he was unable to attend but sent his wife his best wishes and was able to see her the following day to give her a kiss, a card and a present.
