THE Delabole Skatepark Committee is encouraging people to support its plans to deliver a new skatepark in the village by donating whatever funds they can.

Claire Sleep, vice-chair of the committee, has told the Post that they have recently had a ‘really positive’ meeting with a grant company for a skatepark — however, unless the committee are able to gather more financial support, the grant company will not consider them for this round of funding, with this potentially being the last opportunity for the committee to receive this particular funding.

Meanwhile, the committee is continuing with their applications behind the scenes, along with local fundraising. However, they are now asking any local businesses or members of the public who may be able to help with financial support to donate what they can to their Crowdfunding page.

The committee needs to gather additional funds by October 5 to make their grant application more likely to qualify to receive between £30,000 and £35,000 towards their skatepark plans.

To help boost funds, the committee is organising a hallowe’en disco on October 26 at St John’s Church, Delabole, from 7pm. There will be a prize for the best dressed attendee.

As planning is in the early stages, more details will be released on the Facebook page.

The committee have also expressed thanks to everyone who has supported the project so far. Particular thanks have been extended to George Hamilton of the Delabole Slate Quarry, who has made a financial contribution.
