SUPERFAST broadband went live in parts of Holsworthy last week, one of the first towns in Devon to benefit from the £94-million project.

Months of campaigning for improved broadband in the town have paid off after the Glebelands was the first estate to be connected to superfast broadband.

When residents take up the package, it will improve connection speeds by 24Mbps.

John Allen, mayor of Holsworthy, said: "I am absolutely delighted the first stage has been completed."

He said it would be an asset to businesses in the town who will want to take advantage of the broadband and it will improve access for residents. The programme couldn't come at a better time with the arrival of the new agri-business centre.

Cllr Allen added: "If the new agri-business centre can get access to it as well, it would be great for new businesses."
