FUNDRAISING comes in all shapes and sizes, and at Flower Scene in Launceston it took the form of sunflowers.
The sunflower is the unofficial flower of Ukraine. This prompted a number of florist across the UK to bunch up and sell their sunflowers to raise money for the people of Ukraine.
Alison Penno, of Flower Scene, was keen to do her bit and was happy to join in with this fundraising initiative.
She said: “Our wholesalers in Bristol shared on Instagram that a florist they supply to in the Cotswolds was doing this. The wholesalers, Flowervision decided to offer Sunflowers at cost price to florists for us to then sell on to our customers. Both florist and the wholesalers have donated all of the money raised from these sales.”
Alison said the scenes in Ukraine were heart breaking and she had felt quite helpless, so was eager to get involved with this initiative that would hopefully brighten people’s homes in the process.
“With what is happening in Ukraine, we all just felt so helpless, I just can’t imagine what the people of Ukraine are going through and it breaks my heart. We just felt that this was such a great way to help no matter how big or small.”
Flower Scene sold 240 stems of sunflowers and so far have raised just over £500. A handful of people also donated the money with out having the flowers.
Flowervision sold 8,510 stems of sunflower and have also donated £7,010.
Alison concluded: “It has been amazing, everybody really does care about what is going on and this was a great way to get involved with some fund raising. It’s just incredible!”
