LAUNCESTON Library have been running a number of activities over the holidays to keep children engaged with the Beano ‘Mischief Makers’ Summer Reading Challenge and keeping them focused on getting their medals and certificates once they complete it.

Over 400 children have already signed up at Launceston Library to read six library books of their choice to complete the challenge.

Children have been collecting rewards along the way as well such as bookmarks, stickers and a wristband.

This reading scheme is free and engages children of all ages, right across the country.

Recently the library collaborated with mayor Margaret Young and FLIC to show the Batman Lego Movie in the Town Hall, which was really popular. Children got to dress up and build Lego models while they watched.

Last week families were able to take part in an art and craft afternoon, with fun activities like making masks and super hero characters, as well as drawing and painting rocks.

There’s still more fun to be had while visiting the library like the treasure hunt for Beano characters hidden around the library as well as super hero colouring in sheets, Sudokus and word puzzles.

There was a trip to Launceston Steam Railway on Friday, August 31 and there will be a final finishing party when the challenge ends on Saturday, September 8.
