THE village of Altarnun recently hosted another successful fun week, and the organisers hope everyone has enjoyed all the events that took place.
Chris Evans, one of the organisers, said: “I can’t think of another village event that is so successful. Little did I know that 19 years ago, when I first came to live here, that I would be involved in so many events each year.”
The village show is over for another year and it has, again, been very successful. Congratulations have been extended to all the winners, and commiserations to the losers, who must try again next year.
The event received approximately 325 entries, almost the same as last year, so it proves that little shows are successful in the lovely village — long may they continue to take place.
This year, there were 31 adults and 20 children who took part, down on last year, so it is encouraged for more people to have a go. It is a good feeling when seeing an entry has been placed in a particular class, but it is also about the taking part that matters, not just the winning. Without the non-winners, there would be no show to see.
This year, two new members joined the committee — Sally Halls and Ingrid Hubbard. It is hoped they enjoyed taking part and that they will continue to stay on the committee.
The committee met on the Saturday before to sort out the tables and mark them all up for the various entries and from 9am on Sunday, village people came in with their individual items and by 11.30am, the judges had arrived and the judging began.
Lots of talking took place and the stewards were very busy running to and from with the results. By 1.30pm, decisions had been made the judges could relax and sit down to enjoy their well-earned lunch.
At 2pm, the doors reopened and competitors were eager to see if their entries had gained a place and were judged to be better than their neighbour next door. People may think their entries were better than the others, but must abide by the decisions made by the judges.
Chris said: “On behalf of the committee, I send my thanks to all who took part this year, and my congratulations to all the winners.”
The trophies having been awarded and photographs taken of the winners, the clearing away of the entries began and prize cards were taken home to be proudly displayed. It is amazing just how quickly everything is cleared away and left for the next occasion the hall is used.
The committee congratulates all the winners of the 2017 show, and it is hoped that everyone was pleased with their results. A full list is displayed in the entrance of the village hall.
Chris added: “Again, thanks must go to all the competitors — without you, there would not be a show, so please keep up the good work and enter again next year. If you have any ideas or you would like to be included in the 2018 schedule, please let me know and I will put your ideas forward when the committee meet again in the near future.”
