TREGADILLETT Brownies ended the autumn term on a high note with the help of some handbells!
They have been very busy since September, including working towards the World Cultures badge. This involved doing various activities and crafts from around the world. One week they had a go at making African jewellery from bones and teeth and shells out of air-dry clay.
They had to wait until the following week to make them into necklaces and decorate them but the results were beautiful.
They also found out about the national costume from other countries and brought in various pictures and dolls to show each other. They also got to grips with a foreign language when they learnt to sing ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ in Swedish!
Then, closer to home, everyone looked at local Cornish Culture with the history of the Cornish flag, coat of arms and of course the pasty!
Also this term the Brownies did incredibly well in raising a lot of money for the Pearl of Africa Childcare charity by taking part in a sponsored silence.
When all the money was collected in, Tregadillett Brownies were able to send a cheque for £350 to the charity.
As the end of term got closer, it meant thinking about Christmas and this year the Brownies got to take part in a Christmas craft that was a bit different to usual.
They had a visit from Chris Corey from Pendragon Mosaics who kindly came along for two consecutive weeks and helped everyone to make a Christmas tree mosaic.
This of course tied in nicely to this term’s badge, with Mosaics being popular in various parts of the Roman world.
The last meeting was the annual ‘Christmas do’ where parents and friends were invited to join the group for entertainment, carol singing and refreshments afterwards. The Brownies read a poem and also played a couple of songs on the handbells.
The regular guests, St Sidwells Handbell Ringers, came and played some songs. This was interspersed with everyone joining in with the carol singing.
The Rev Malcolm Jones and the Rev Teresa Folland both joined in by telling the Nativity story (with the help of the Brownies) and with the final blessing, the evening ended with the Brownies singing ‘The Colours of Christmas’ for everyone.
The Brownies start again in the New Year.
